Why change the differential oil?

A differential is a device, usually consisting of gears, that allows each of the driving wheels to rotate at different speeds, while supplying equal torque to each of them.

Just like any other mechanism with moving parts, the differential generates heat and friction while in operation, and its oil protects it from excessive wear. Differential oil lubricates bearings and gears to allow smooth and easy movement. Failure to change the differential oil at your vehicles manufacture’s recommended intervals can cause a variety of problems, eventually causing the bearings in the differential to fail.
